CESDR co-organized a Symposium on Multi-Hazards Assessment of Heritage Structures at CPU, Iloilo City

Last June 22, 2019 CESDR organized with Central Philippine University (CPU), Iloilo City and University of the Philippines Visayas a symposium on “Multi-Hazard Assessment of Heritage Buildings (The Case of Iloilo City).” This symposium was held in preparation to the Newton Institutional Links project with University College London on Cultural Heritage Resilience & Sustainability to Multi-Hazards (CHeRiSH) where DLSU is a cooperating institution. Three CESDR Disaster Resilience Unit members delivered lectures during the symposium” 
  • Dr. Andres Winston C. Oreta - Structural Engineering & Heritage Preservation and Overview of Multi-Hazards Assessment of Heritage Structures (The Case of Iloilo City)
  • Dr. Rodolfo Mendoza, Jr. - Structural Evaluation, NDT & Semi-Destructive Testing of Heritage Structures
  •  Engr. Richard De Jesus - Researches on Heritage Structures at DLSU CE Department


Engr. Mary Earl Daryl Grio (Head, Civil Engineering Dept., CPU) presented about seismic and fire hazards assessment. Dr. Rhodella Ibabao of the Dept.. of Management, UPVisayas and Philippine project leader of CHeRiSH project gave  an overview of the objecties and outcomes of the  CHeRiSH project. Arch. Wilfredo Sy, Jr. of the Iloilo Heritage Council attended and participated in the open forum.

After the symposium, a lunch meeting was hosted by CPU and UPV to discuss the preparations for the July 15 CHeRiSH Project Stakeholders; Meeting and the July 16-19 CHeRiSH Data Gathering with UCL.  DLSU members, Oreta and De Jesus will attend the July 15 meeting and De Jesus will be part of the survey team for the data gathering.

After the lunch meeting, a tour of the heritage buildings on Iloilo City’s Calle Real, the project site was conducted by Arch Sy.
