What: Building DRR Networks
When: August 30 – Sept 2, 2016
Where: Visayas, Northern Mindanao
CESDR DRR-CCA members to network: Dr.
Lessandro E. O. Garciano, Dr. Renan Ma. T. Tanhueco
Rationale:
The
CESDR subcenter on DRR-CCA has its main objective which is to serve as a
resource to support Philippine local governments and the State by way of
mainstreaming DRR in local and sub-national systems. This is implemented by taking a system’s view in developing,
designing and implementing disaster risk management and climate change
adaptation with a result of contributing to resilience and sustainability of
communities, their built and natural environments. To realize this objective,
the sub-center is continuing its efforts to build networking with other
research institutions and local government units to promote dialogue and
cooperation among the stakeholders and thus enhance the resilience of
communities through research that is adaptable to vulnerable communities.
Objectives:
- To learn lessons from active local research centers Xavier University Engineering Resource Center (XU-ERC) and thus enhance the management and implementation of research at the sub-center,
- To explore collaborative or cooperative researches and activities with XU-ERC so that the impact of DRR researches becomes more effective in a regional or national level,
- To understand the issues and problems related to Region X, and propose DRR activities with NEDA Regional Office X (NRO-X) and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, Northern Mindanao and initiate cooperative researches or projects towards the resilience in the Northern Mindanao LGUs and their communities, and
- To seek continuation of cooperative activities in Surigao City on natural hazard risk assessments, water system safety with Surigao Metropolitan Water District (SMWD).
- To explore collaborative or cooperative researches and activities with the Civil Engineering Department, College of Engineering of the University of San Carlos, Talamban Campus towards disaster risk reduction and management.
- Field inspections of areas for possible study.
